In a shocking incident in West Bengal's Jhargram district, the nephew of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national vice-president Dilip Ghosh has been arrested for allegedly sharing intimate photos and videos of his ex-girlfriend on social media.
According to the West Bengal Police, the 24-year-old accused allegedly sent those photographs and videos to the woman's future in-laws, due to which her pre-arranged marriage was called off. The woman has also claimed that the accused refused to marry her.
The victim lodged a written complaint with the Jhargram Cyber Crime Police Station, following which the police called the accused for questioning. After questioning, the police arrested the accused and seized his mobile phone. He was produced in a local court, where he was sent to judicial custody for 14 days.
The accused has been booked under Section 506 (criminal intimidation), Section 509 (act intended to outrage the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Section 66C (cheating or dishonestly in any other way) of the Information Technology Act. Additionally, a case has been registered under sections 66E (knowingly taking a person's photograph and disseminating it without his permission) and using a person's electronic signature, password).
BJP leader Dilip Ghosh has also commented on the incident, stating that he was aware of his nephew's arrest. He said, "As far as I know, both were friends while studying in college. I cannot say anything about their relationship in college and how it was after that. I do not know the circumstances behind this step of the woman. The law will take its own course."
